Declarative Schema Management and PostGIS Quick Start
On July 15, join us for an evening with Zach Paden and Anna Bailliekova, covering schema management with PostgreSQL and a beginner-friendly introduction to PostGIS.
Talk 1: Declarative Schema Management with pgschema
Speaker: Zach Paden
Lots of application developers struggle to understand the concept of versioning database migrations, and managing the history of these migrations can become difficult even with existing tools. In this talk, Zach will introduce pgschema, a tool that allows you to write pure SQL declaratively and lets pgschema derive a series of valid online migrations.
Zach Paden is a tech lead at Symetra with experience ranging from scrappy startups and consulting to large regulated enterprises. His work spans data platforms, analytics, and application development, where he has seen more than his fair share of projects get bogged down or catch on fire due to schema management practices.
Talk 2: PostGIS Quick Start
Speaker: Anna Bailliekova
PostgreSQL provides rich support for geospatial computing. Using transportation examples, Anna will give a brief tour of PostGIS features for those who have wanted to try geospatial data but have been hesitant to get started.
Anna Bailliekova has been moving data around professionally for 15 years. She is currently a staff engineer at XeoMatrix, where she focuses on helping organizations mature their data engineering practices, solve optimization problems, and build geospatial data applications.
